Summary

Volume Mixer for Chrome is a browser extension that controls, mutes, and boosts the audio of individual browser tabs.

                The extension makes no network requests of any kind. It has no
                server, no account system, and no analytics. Nothing it stores
                ever leaves your device.
            

This policy describes every piece of information the extension touches, including information that is only ever held locally.

What Is Stored On Your Device

The extension uses Chrome's storage APIs, which are readable only by the extension itself.

Saved between sessions

Site volume profiles. If "Remember site defaults" is on, the extension saves a website hostname together with the volume level you chose for it — for example youtube.com: 250. This is what lets a site reopen at the level you set.
Your settings. Whether site defaults and automatic reconnection are enabled, and whether you have already seen the first-run tutorial.

Held only while Chrome is running

Which tabs currently have volume control active.
Which tabs you have authorised for tab capture.

Session information is discarded when you close the browser.

                A saved site profile records the hostname of a site you chose
                to control. It is not a browsing history: no page URLs, page
                titles, visit times, or visit counts are recorded, and nothing
                is recorded for sites you never adjust.
            

What Is Never Collected

The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, rent, share, or disclose any of the following:

Names, email addresses, or phone numbers
Payment or financial information
Passwords or authentication information
Location data
Browsing history or page content
Personal communications
Audio recordings
Usage analytics or tracking identifiers

No account is required, and there is no third party to share anything with — the extension contains no advertising networks, analytics platforms, tracking software, or external data collection services.

Audio Processing

Volume changes are applied on your device, inside your browser, as the audio plays. Audio is never recorded, written to disk, or uploaded anywhere.

Two mechanisms are used, depending on the page:

Page volume control. On sites you have explicitly allowed, a small script adjusts the volume of the page's audio and video elements. It reads only what it needs to route audio; it does not read page text, form fields, cookies, or credentials, and it sends nothing anywhere.
Tab capture. For pages the first method cannot reach, and only for tabs you explicitly authorise, the tab's audio is routed through a volume control held in memory. The audio stream exists only for as long as the tab is connected and is never saved or transmitted.

Permissions And Why They Exist

Permission	Why it is needed
Site access, per site	Requested one site at a time, only when you choose "Allow" for that site. Lets the extension adjust that site's media volume. You can revoke any site under Settings → Allowed sites.
`tabs`	Lists your open tabs in the mixer with their titles and whether they are playing audio, and mutes or unmutes a tab. Shown in the panel only; never transmitted.
`tabCapture`	Routes a tab's audio through a volume control, only for tabs you explicitly authorise.
`storage`	Saves the preferences described above, locally.
`scripting`, `offscreen`, `sidePanel`, `contextMenus`, `activeTab`	Supporting permissions used to show the interface and apply volume changes. None of them collect data.

Limited Use

The extension's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

Information is used only to provide tab volume control, the extension's single purpose.
No information is transferred to any third party, because none of it leaves your device.
No information is used for advertising, retargeting, or personalised advertising.
No information is used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
No human reads any of it. There is no server for anyone to read it from.

Removing Your Data

You are in control of everything the extension keeps:

Clear saved defaults in the extension's Settings page erases all saved site volume profiles.
Settings → Allowed sites removes a site's access individually.
Uninstalling the extension removes everything it has stored.

Children's Privacy

The extension is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes To This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Any change will be published on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Material changes to how information is handled will also be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
